What it feels like to be there…

Serengeti, meaning ‘endless plains’ in Maasai, is the goliath among safari parks. Home to the world’s largest mammal migration, seeing the colonial hunters’ Big 5 is almost a given here, and a photo collection to die for is guaranteed. With many of the world’s most luxurious safari camps and lodges, it is easy to see the beasts in style.

What to do there…

Serengeti is packed with activities and perfect for 5 to 7 days:

  • Major: Safari, Game-drives, Hot-air-ballooning, Horse-riding, Bird-watching, Photography, Cultural-visits.
  • Other: Big-5, Swimming, Spa/Massage, Library, Yoga, Cycling, Tennis, Gym/Fitness.

Where to stay…

5* Singita Grumeti Reserves has achieved almost cult status in safari circles as the ultimate in luxury wildlife adventure, with its four-poster beds, private infinity pools and 340,000 acres of private game park. 5* Bilila Lodge is a sleek and stylish alternative, blending the intimacy of a lodge with the facilities of a luxury hotel.

Some practical information worth knowing…

  • Travel: Nairobi is about 6h drive from the parks. Charter flights from Dar Es Salaam take 2-3h (Grumeti for Serengeti and Lake Manyara for Ngorongoro) or about 1h from Arusha.
  • Weather: generally hot and dry, some rain Nov–Apr.
