What it feels like to be there…

Beneath the mighty peak of the Matterhorn is the pretty, bustling town of Zermatt. The quiet buzz of electric cars is the only traffic noise, but the strains of jolly Alpine bands spill out from the shops on to the streets. Chocolate-brown houses, laden with flower boxes, contrast with the jagged, icy mountains on the close horizon.

What to do there…

Zermatt is packed with activities and perfect for 7 days:

  • Major: Skiing/Snowboarding, Off-Piste, Sledging, Snow-shoeing, Ice-climbing, Ice-skating, Paragliding, Spa/Massage, Cultural-visits, Hiking, Mountain-biking, Fishing, Rock-climbing, Downhill-scooters.
  • Other: Gym/Fitness, Swimming, Yoga, Pilates, Cinema.

Where to stay…

High on a cliff-face above the centre of town sits gorgeous 5* The Omnia. Accessed through a tunnel and 45m lift through the rock, the drama of your entry is surpassed only by the amazing views from within. The epitome of designer chic, this hotel aims to magnify the splendour of nature and the elements, ensuring you an exciting stay.

Some practical information worth knowing…

  • Travel: Zermatt and Montana are about 3-3.5h drive from Geneva, Zurich and Basel or 2.5h from Bern (similar by train).

What the AdventureTemples travel community says…

The peaks around Zermatt have the altitude for year-round skiing, but in summer this area is a mountaineer’s paradise. Scaling the summit of the Matterhorn has been every climber’s dream since Edward Whymper first conquered it in 1865. Sadly, four of his party fell to their deaths on the descent, but the route is now established and readily achievable with the right guide, equipment and coaching.
