What it feels like to be there...

New Zealand’s natural environment has long been a source of inspiration to its people, who specialise in inventing new adventure sports to show it off. It manages to pack such a wide range of fascinating landscapes into a small area that there is something for everyone. No wonder it is the film set for so many fantasy pictures.

Some practical information worth knowing…

Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are the main airports, and after that the great road network makes travel to your end destination easy. While the climate offers a large number of sunshine hours for most of the year, it gets very cold in the mountains so buy your NZ Merino wool ‘undies’ before you head out of the city.

What it feels like to be there...

Snowy mountains, white sandy beaches, parched deserts and volcanic mud moonscapes – this region allows you a taster of almost every environment on Earth. Take the opportunity to challenge yourself physically with a bewildering range of adventure sports, and sample the accessible and friendly native cultures.

Some practical information worth knowing…

Flights into the region typically land in Sydney, Melbourne or Auckland, but because of the wide geographical spread, all the big cities have international and regional airports these days. The weather in the tropical north is hot and humid, and while it is dry further south, it only really gets cool up in the mountains. English is the main language, but other European languages are not widely spoken because Japanese is the foreign language learnt in schools.
