What it feels like to be there...

Sandwiched between imposing Mount Etna and the beautiful Ionian Sea, Taormina is a pretty Sicilian town in a treat of a location. There are so many great historical sites and exciting things to do it is a real struggle to work out what to leave out. Why not jump in a helicopter and pick your favourites from the air?

What to do there…

Taormina is packed with activities and perfect for 7 days:
  • Major: Volcano-treks, Cultural-visits, Historical-sites, Sailing, Boat-trips, Fishing, Scuba-diving, Spa/Massage, Photography, Scenic-flights, Cooking-classes.
  • Other: Snorkelling, Swimming, Gym/Fitness, Library.

Where to stay…

The 5* Grand Hotel Timeo by Orient-Express is the perfect place from which to explore Sicily. Its pretty garden walkways and grand terraces have a real sense of occasion, and the cool opulence of the bedrooms puts you at ease. 4* Villa Carlotta is a stunning alternative, stylishly furnished, filled with artistic touches and blessed with panoramic viewpoints.

Some practical information worth knowing…

  • Travel: Taormina is 1h drive from Catania Airport, a 1.5h flight from Rome. Naples is 1h flight from both Catania and Rome and 1.5h from the Amalfi Coast.
  • Weather: warm all year round, hot Jun-Sep, wetter Oct-Feb.

What the AdventureTemples travel community says…

At over 3,300m, climbing Mount Etna is a challenge, but what makes it truly special is the scene that greets you at the top. A barren, black, lava-coated landscape, capped with ice and still fuming from some of its craters. At night you can often see the orange glow as molten rocks spurt out and run down the sides. Fortunately, it is so closely monitored there is little real danger! We'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. What it feels like to be there...

Australia's 'Top End' wilderness region around the Kakadu National Park is a simply stunning wetland region, with miles of beautiful winding rivers, deciduous forests and sunny grasslands as far as the eye can see. Crocodiles laze on the banks, a menagerie of birds flit among the trees and buffalo roam the plains.

What to do there…

'Top End' is packed with activities and perfect for 5 to 7 days:
  • Major: Boat-trips, Nature-walks, Bird-watching, Fishing, Cultural-visits, Scenic-flights, Crocodile-watching.
  • Other: Safari, Air-boats, Buffalo-mustering, Historical-sites, Swimming.

Where to stay…

Getting back to nature – the simple life – couldn’t be easier at 5* Bamurru Plains. A working buffalo station in a truly beautiful wetland area, each ‘safari suite’ is designed for luxurious comfort and total escapism. They take care of everything, leaving you free to explore the wonders of nature and relax.

Some practical information worth knowing…

  • Travel: Kakadu and Darwin Airport are both 3h drive or 0.5h flight away. From Darwin, flights to Alice Springs take 2h. Travel to Ayers Rock takes 6h by car or a 1h flight and 0.5h drive. Flight connections vary.
  • Weather: Darwin is hot all year round with tropical rain Nov-Mar; Alice Springs/Ayres Rock are hot and dry almost all year.

What the AdventureTemples travel community says…

The scale of the outback wilderness is difficult for modern urbanites to comprehend. With mile after mile of undisturbed natural beauty, it really is just you and a lazy crocodile or two, staring at the sun glinting off the serene scenery. You can fly in and out in minutes, but we recommend spending time travelling overland. Hour after hour of nature, with nowhere to be but here and now, is truly liberating.
